Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

Junior Show

The Houston Livestock Show™ draws Texas 4-H and FFA exhibitors from across the state to compete at the world's largest livestock show. These students bring various species of livestock - from rabbits and poultry to goats and steers - each hoping to take home the coveted title of Houston Champion. In previous years, not all competitors were able to bring their animals to Reliant Park for competition; many had to first make it through an elimination sift conducted off-site. In 2006, however, the off-site sifts were no longer held, and all competitors now have the chance to travel to Houston and vie for a championship title. Each student works many months to earn his or her place competing among the finest junior livestock in the state.

Participation in the Junior Livestock Division is limited to Texas resident students, who are members of a Texas 4-H Club or FFA Chapter, and who have continuously owned and personally fed and cared for their animals under the direct supervision of a county extension agent or agricultural science teacher. Exhibitors must be enrolled in, and attending, public or private elementary or secondary schools in Texas. Students must be between the ages of 9 and 18 on or before Aug. 31, 2008. Exception: students in the 3rd grade become eligible on their 8th birthday.
